Chelsea’s midfield situation – a little short while Moises Caicedo is out – has led to links to other players who could be signed.

TeamTalk have just put out an exclusive which claims that Chelsea are going to reignite their interest in Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi in January.
The former Real Sociedad man has not made himself a weekly starter for the Gunners, and there are whispers he would like to move on to a team where he’s a key player. Chelsea are short in midfield at the moment with the likes of Moises Caicedo and Jordan Henderson out.
There was chatter before the deadline that Zubimendi was on the Blues’ shortlist.
Pieces need to fall into place for midfielder to move

We can really see Zubimendi being a Chelsea target in January, if things fall into place.
Firstly Chelsea will need to feel like they still need a midfield addition. If Caicedo returns from injury soon and is fit, and if the likes of Valentin Barco and Henderson look comfortable as backups, the need for Zubimendi is limited.
Equally, the Basque will need to feel that he’s not got a good future with the Gunners. So far he’s still getting enough minutes that it’s hard to imagine him forcing a mid-season move.
In other news…
Xabi Alonso’s press conference yesterday saw him confirm that Chelsea had considered an emergency option for their midfield situation.
Caicedo’s injury is what is stretching our midfield depth right now, and we did at least get some detail on his problem from Alonso in the same presser.
