Radio presenter Sam Matterface is backing Chelsea to compete for the title this year.
He’s spent some time around the Blues camp in recent weeks, at press conferences and covering last weekend’s win, and the impression he gets is that Xabi Alonso is not here to make up the numbers.
Chelsea are here to compete, and their summer business has put them in a position to do that.
Chelsea won’t be satisfied with Champions League place
“Being around them [Chelsea] this last couple of weeks, I’ve noticed that there is a sense of ambition there, from the owners and from the manager,” Matterface said on his show on TalkSport.
“The manager is not going to tolerate just turning up and finishing top 5. He’s going to want to go for it. And the recruitment’s been ver, very sensible.”
Well if that’s true, we’ll see evidence of it today. Away at Arsenal is the hardest game of the season, on paper. We don’t need to win, but if we can show we’re competitive with them, that’s a big sign that this is going to be a strong season.
